Learn to make soap

Charlon Bobo, former Oahu resident and founder and owner of the California-based Utopian Garden Soap Co., returns home to conduct a class in cold-process handcrafted soapmaking.

The class takes place 8:45 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Aloha Activity Center at 725 Kapiolani Boulevard. The fee is $30 and registration is being accepted at 955-6570. Walk-ins will be taken.

Bobo recognized early the interest in natural bath-and-body products and said it's possible for consumers to create such products themselves. "It's easy once you learn the basics," she said.

Bobo is a member of the Handmade Toiletries Network, has been involved in The Handcrafted Soapmaker's Guild since its inception in 1997, and organizes the annual spring Southern California Handcrafted Soapmakers Gathering.
