Aloha Airlines said today it will start serving Las Vegas on Feb. 14, the first anniversary of the start of its Honolulu-Oakland service.

The Las Vegas flights will be extensions of Aloha's daily Honolulu-Oakland and Maui-Oakland flights.

Aloha Air The aircraft will go on to Las Vegas after a stop of less than an hour at Oakland International Airport.

"Las Vegas has long been the No. 1 travel destination for Hawaii residents," said Glenn R. Zander, president and chief executive officer of Aloha.

Extending the Oakland flights to Las Vegas will provide "some very attractive travel options, not only for our customers in Hawaii but also for those in the San Francisco Bay Area and now Las Vegas," Zander said.

The airline said it also expects business from the large number of former Hawaii residents who live in Las Vegas and regularly travel to Hawaii to visit friends and family. There is also a strong demand for travel between the San Francisco area and Las Vegas, Aloha said.

To kick off the new service, Aloha is offering a $99 round-trip fare to members of its AlohaPass frequent-flier program who fly three interisland round trips between Oct. 10 and Dec. 20 this year.

The Boeing 737-700 extended-range aircraft that Aloha uses in its mainland service are configured with 12 seats in first class and 112 in coach.

The airline has two of the aircraft, acquired new when it started the mainland service this year.

Aloha flies about 170 flights a day within Hawaii. It also provides weekly service to the Pacific Islands -- Johnston, Midway, Christmas and the Marshalls.

Hawaiian Airlines, which has been flying to Las Vegas since 1985, has daily service using Boeing DC-10 aircraft seating 34 in first class and 270 in coach. Hawaiian's flights stop in Los Angeles on the way to and from Las Vegas.

Hawaiian also flies seven round-trip DC-10 charter flights a week between Honolulu and Las Vegas for Vacations Hawaii, which sells Las Vegas tours.
