Harry Kim, former Big Island Civil Defense director, had a 1,912-to-1,147 lead over opponent Harvey Tajiri in the Republican primary for Hawaii County mayor.

In the Democratic primary election, Fred C. Holschuh was beating state Rep. Robert Herkes 2,906 to 1,885 in the first printout, which is mostly absentee votes.

Prosecutor Jay T. Kimura was ahead of challenger Brenda Carreira 3,391 to 1,433.
