Age: 22
Job:

What are the unique qualifications you bring to this job?

My experience as a grass-roots organizer prepares me to work with all the stakeholders in our community to discuss issues. I've also spent some time as an elementary teacher, giving me a distinct appreciation for the hard work of educators.

What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?

a) Leaky, dependent economy: Our economy is too dependent on the outside -- on tourists, imports, and ideas. b) Education reform: The Legislature must play a supportive role for education reform. c) Sustainability Our islands have limited resources and carrying capacity; our economic plans must take this into account.

Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?

The Legislature should work with the unions to achieve a win-win scenario.

What are the unique qualifications you bring to this job?

Education, experience, and energy -- with my training as an attorney and work experience as a school teacher, university administrator, and legal counsel, I have been working with the community to grow our economy, improve our schools, and fight crime. Married over a decade, we have three children (oldest in public school).

What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?

Top three issues: education, economy, public safety. In that order.

Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?

Civil service needs to be modernized. Rules were put in place before the Information Age and the New Economy.
