What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?

While our state has a lot of problems, my biggest concern at this time is moving our district into the 21st century. Crime, drugs, education, traffic, jobs, land use, are a few of the pressing problems we are faced with right now. Solutions have to be found to tackle these problems.

Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?

While I agree that our civil service system has to be changed, unless I have the chance to review the law making these decision right now would be premature.

I recently had the privilege of serving as the central district member of the Board of Education. The knowledge I gained being on the Board of Education will be valuable in my efforts to obtaining excellence in our public schools. As a Realtor I have the business sense and as a community leader I know the pulse of the people. I am a mother of two adult children and have compassion for families.

a) Education: Much needed funding to make real improvements, e.g. new books and materials, improve school facilities. Fund programs. Teacher's salaries. b) Economy: Agriculture, aquaculture, high-tech industry. We need to be more self-sufficient and develop markets for our products. c) Crime: Stronger laws, increased penalties for criminals who deserve it. Need to focus more on rehabilitation.
