What are the unique qualifications you bring to this job?

Lifelong resident resident of the Waipahu/Pearl City area committed to community development. I will be a strong advocate for the hard working people of Waipahu and Pearl City. My athletic, military, and legal background have prepared me for leadership in my community and Hawaii.

What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?

a) Improve education: Hawaii needs to invest in better facilities and resources for public education. ... Some forms of gaming should be authorized ... with 100 percent of the proceeds going to public education. b) Economic growth: Hawaii should create incentives to attract information and technology businesses. c) Mass transit for Honolulu: Increased express bus routes with free parking ... can be quickly implemented. ...

Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?

The civil service system is generally sound. However, the state could save money by streamlining government departments, reducing employees in redundant positions and permitting many employees to work from computer stations at home part-time. This would also reduce the costs of building leases and lessen commuter traffic as well.

What are the unique qualifications you bring to this job?

I've worked both in the private and public sector, at home and abroad, in government and at the community level. But more importantly, I bring a commitment to open up the political process to make it more accountable, accessible, and approachable. The community deserves no less.

What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?

Economy, education, environment.

Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?

Working in partnership, we can implement changes that make the system more efficient, effective, and better able to respond to the needs of the community. However, we should not interfere in the collective-bargaining process that rightfully is between the governor and the unions to negotiate.
