"Experience" and a lot of it: professor, real estate broker, small business owner, marketing and sales vice president, Palama Settlement board of trustees vice president, public school teacher, University of Hawaii administrator and union shop steward. Also member of Ahakui Kaahumanu Society and president of Kwangtung Lin Yee Hui Society.

What are the top three issues facing Hawaii (from most pressing to least)?

a) Education: We are in a global economy ... We must think internationally and we must prepare our students for the 21st century... b) Hawaii's Infrastructure: ... Hawaii's "fragile" infrastructure needs to be maintained and protected as we strive to become a major resort destination. c) Hawaii's aging population with its health-care needs: ... I will be introducing a bill to help relieve the drug expenses of our elderly.

Are changes needed to the civil service system? If so, what are they?

Yes, as a certain philosopher said, "The only thing constant is change itself!" A change that is "fair" to a majority of the workers is good. All stakeholders should agree on the changes, especially the workers. They are the ones that do the work ... their bosses can come and go and are usually political appointments, so the hiring, firing should not be left solely to supervisors.
