Two national TV
showcases for Rainbows

Star-Bulletin staff

University of Hawaii men's basketball games at Tulsa Jan. 28 and Fresno State Feb. 11 will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net, UH athletic director Hugh Yoshida said yesterday.

As a result of the telecasts, there will be two changes in the Rainbows' 2000-2001 schedule.

Their game at Rice will be played on Jan. 25 and the nationally televised game at Fresno State has been switched from Feb. 10 to Feb. 11.

HPU women No. 1

The Hawaii Pacific University women's volleyball team retained its No. 1 ranking in the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released yesterday.

The Sea Warriors (7-0) open Pacific West Conference play this weekend with matches at Chaminade Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Hawaii-Hilo Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

The Brigham Young University-Hawaii Seasiders are ranked ninth in this week's poll.

DeRenne promoted

Infielder Keoni DeRenne, a former Iolani baseball standout, was promoted to the Greenville, S.C., Braves for the Class AA Southern League playoffs by the parent Atlanta Braves.

He was 1-for-1 in a pinch-hitting role in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Jacksonville, Fla.

Unfortunately for DeRenne, the Suns won both games to end Greenville's season.

UH-Hilo golfers 18th

The Hawaii-Hilo men's golf team finished 18th in the Northwest Collegiate Classic last weekend at Corvallis, Ore.

Billy Noon's 10-over-par 220 total was the Vulcans' best score in the tournament, won by Nevada.
