Whatever
Happened...

An update on past news

One KGMB anchor
at BYU; another
in Calif.

Question: Whatever happened to Sandra Sagisi and Dave Carlin, KGMB weekend anchors?

Answer: Sandra Sagisi left KGMB in 1998 to take a job at her alma mater, Brigham Young University-Hawaii. She's now Director of Student Services and Leadership Development, teaches a course for student body officers, brings world-class artists to Laie, and does public relations work for the school's marketing department.

"I'm enjoying the family life at BYU right now. It's like being in a perfect world where everyone gets along," Sagisi wrote over email.

Sagisi, an Emmy nominee for a personal documentary on her battle with breast cancer, has had a clean bill of health for almost 10 years now. She still raises more than $450,000 a year for the American Cancer Society through letter-writing campaigns.

"I might go back to TV in the future," Sagisi wrote. "Television news is exciting, and I love meeting people. You can't really get it out of your system.

"But for now, my whole life is concentrated on raising my child, beating cancer for good and supporting my husband's career (as deputy attorney general)."

As for Dave Carlin, he left the station last July to join a start-up news operation at the Warner Bros. affiliate in San Diego, KSWB-TV 5.

"It's challenging. You have to create everything from scratch," Carlin said over the phone from San Diego.

The show has gone through a series of changes, Carlin said. He joined the KSWB team as primary anchor and is now a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter during the week.

Carlin said he misses the islands. "I'm very glad I made the move, but Hawaii is a place I would love to get back to later."
