HPU women’s soccer
team wins handily

Hawaii Pacific scored the first four goals of the game en route to a 5-1 women's soccer win over Southern Oregon yesterday at HPU's Windward Campus field.

Jannicke Snildal scored in the first half and the Lady Sea Warriors (3-4) added four goals after intermission.

The only ball to get by the HPU goalie tandem of Yonie Espiritu and Alicia Van Meier was an own goal in the 82nd minute.

Billabong Pro on hold

The Billabong Pro was postponed yesterday at Anglet, France.

When conditions improve, Hawaii's Shane Dorian will surf in a men's quarterfinal heat against Brazil's Flavio Padaratz.

Hawaii's Rochelle Ballard meets Lisa Andersen in the women's semifinals.

Amateur surf contest

The second event in the Hawaii Amateur Surfing Association Crazy Shirts Surf Series is tomorrow and Sunday at Kewalos.

Interested spectators and participants can call the HASA hotline at 262-2488 for more contest information.

TheBus to the stadium

TheBus is offering express bus service to Aloha Stadium for University of Hawaii football games.

The fare is $2 each way. Transfers are not accepted. Buses are wheelchair lift and bicycle rack equipped. Buses leave 15 minutes after the game, but won't leave without you.

Service is available from Ala Moana Center, the Alapai Transit Center downtown, Hawaii Kai, Kahala Mall, Kaimuki, Palolo, UH, Kapolei, Mililani Mauka, Village Park, Waikiki and several Windward Oahu sites.

For information on departure times, call 848-5555 between 5:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Save on volleyball tickets

UH Wahine volleyball fans can save $2 per ticket on any Friday game by presenting their Maika'i Card at any Ticket Plus Outlet at Foodland or Sack N Save.

Fans also can call Ticket Plus at 526-4400 with the Maika'i Card number to receive the discount.

The offer is good on any upper level seat for these Friday games: today vs. Creighton, Sept. 15 vs. UC Santa Barbara, Sept 22 vs. Pepperdine, Nov. 17 vs. Nevada.

Ticket Plus convenience fees are waived for the discounted tickets, but the processing fee applies to telephone orders.

UH women's tennis tryouts

Today is the deadline for full-time University of Hawaii students to register if interested in trying out for the women's tennis team Sept. 18.

To register, call head coach Carolyn Katayama at 956-3655.

UH cross-country debut

Tomorrow marks the opening of the University of Hawaii women's cross-country season.

The "Blue" team will compete in the University of San Francisco Invitational while the "Green" team participates in the Brigham Young-Hawaii Invitational.

Both races are five kilometers.

Rocho sets for Chippewas

Jessica Rocho, a senior at Central Michigan University, is sharing setting duties with freshman Shaleene Glombowski on the Chippewas' women's soccer team. Rocho, a University High School graduate, is the returning starter.
