Honoring The Dragon

By George F. Lee, Star-Bulletin

People's Liberation Army (Navy) Rear Admiral Lu Fangqiu, left,
and U.S. Navy Rear Admirals Robert T. Conway and Alfred G. Harms
Jr. offer gifts to a Chinese dragon for good luck during welcoming
ceremonies in Pearl Harbor yesterday morning. Two ships from
China, the destroyer Qingdao and the oiler Taicang, arrived on Labor
Day, led by Lu, chief of staff of the North Sea fleet.

Below, Hu Fang Ming stands guard on the deck of the guided missile
destroyer. During their Hawaii stop, the sailors and Americans from
the USS O'Kane will tour each other's ships. Next stop on the goodwill
cruise to the United States is Everett, Wash.
