KHNL News 8 will broadcast a debate next month that will feature the three major candidates for mayor.

The debate -- 11 a.m. on Sept. 12 at Honolulu Country Club and sponsored by the Kalihi Business Association -- will be broadcast on unedited taped delay from 9 to 10:30 p.m. that evening.

The debate may end up being the only one that will feature Mayor Jeremy Harris, former Councilman Mufi Hannemann and former Mayor Frank Fasi before the Sept. 23 election.

Fasi said he won't appear at a Sept. 13 debate sponsored by KHON Channel 2.

Both KITV Channel 4 and KGMB Channel 9 are still negotiating dates with Harris to appear on their stations in a three-way forum.

Chuck Parker, KHNL's executive news director, had earlier tried unsuccessfully to book all three candidates for a live evening debate.

The Kalihi Business Association debate is a $25-a-seat fund-raiser for the group.

To attend, call Ron Jones (847-5966) or Tom Harper (841-7511).
