Sampson Guillermo is hoping to follow the same path that took Brian Viloria to the Olympic Games.

Yesterday, Guillermo was notified that he had been awarded a full scholarship to Northern Michigan, site of the Olympic Education Center, in Marquette, Mich. Northern Michigan is where Viloria trains and attends school.

Guillermo, a recent Waianae High graduate, is a two-time junior national champion and two-time junior world champion at 112 pounds. The 17-year-old expects to move up to the next weight class for his next competition.

Aiea wins WS thriller

Chase Kaiwailani doubled to center field with two outs in the bottom of the 11th to score Dylan Libadisos as Aiea downed Kansas, 4-3, in the Junior Little League World Series.

Aiea, 2-0 in the double-elimination tournament in Taylor, Mich., plays unbeaten Canada today.

Yesterday, Justin Goo pitched 10 innings for Aiea, retiring the final 19 batters he faced.

Blake Lamug pitched the 11th to get credit for the win, escaping a no-out, bases-loaded jam with a pickoff and two strikeouts.

Seau injures finger

San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau will sit out tomorrow night's exhibition game at Atlanta because of a dislocated finger on his left hand.

"With the way he's played in the first two games, he doesn't need any more tuning up, especially when he does have an injury," coach Mike Riley said after the Chargers broke camp yesterday. "We're going to be careful with that one."

Riley said Seau should be able to play in the exhibition finale against Arizona on Aug. 25.
