Stop To Smell The Ginger

Sarada Voss, a plant and science student at Cornell University and
an intern at Lyon Arboretum, smells a ginger plant at the arboretum.
She was part of the arboretum's "Colorful, fragrant world of gingers"
workshop, headed by Robert Hirano.



Firefighter, Pilot Honored

Firefighter Jeffrey Barbieto, left, and helicopter pilot Kalani
Wilmington, center right, were commended today for rescuing
two divers from hazardous surf off Kahala Beach. Barbieto is
surrounded by his wife, Myesha, and their sons, Lokahi, 5, and
Nalu, 8. At right is Fire Chief Attilio Leonardi. On the night of
July 3, Barbieto jumped in the water from Wilmington's
helicopter to help the divers. Barbieto then helped the
divers into a basket lowered from the helicopter.
