It's official: An 11-day joint special session of the Legislature will begin at 10 a.m. Monday.

The House and Senate Judiciary committees will hold hearings on two bills on which they have already reached an agreement.

One bill will attempt to fix unequal Senate terms, which were caused by a constitutional flaw, in time for voter ratification this fall.

The second bill will postpone the effective date of a medical information privacy law so that state lawmakers can take it up during next year's session

The House hearings will be held in Room 325.

The medical privacy bill will be taken up at 10:30 a.m,. and the Senate terms measure at 3 p.m.

The Senate hearings will be held in Room 229, with Senate terms discussed at 10:30 a.m. and medical privacy at 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Senate Labor and Environment Committee will hold a 1 p.m. hearing on Gov. Ben Cayetano's choice of Gilbert S. Coloma-Agaran to head the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

Lawmakers will begin a six-day recess beginning Thursday before taking final actions on Aug. 16 and 17.

Yesterday was the conclusion of a two-day Senate-only session during which four judicial nominees were confirmed.
