Nordstrom Rack ready for Victoria Ward debut

Hawaii's first Nordstrom Rack is scheduled to open Thursday in the Victoria Ward complex, 330 Kamakee St., in Kakaako.

Nordstrom Rack, an off-price division of Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom Inc., sells merchandise transferred from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com, along with items marked down from 30 to 75 percent.

Nordstrom Rack said it hired locally for all but one of the Hawaii location's 90 positions. The retail division sells apparel and shoes from brands including Stuart Weitzman, Kenneth Cole, Reyn Spooner, Calvin Klein, Roxy and Esprit.

Nordstrom opened a leased shoe operation 34 years ago in Hawaii at Liberty House. In 1997, it opened two shoe stores in Ala Moana Center.

Sears halts tire sales of some Firestones

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Sears, Roebuck & Co., the largest U.S. department-store chain, said it halted sales of some Bridgestone Corp. tires being investigated by U.S. safety regulators in crashes that have killed 21 people. Sears said it stopped selling Firestone ATX, ATX II and Wilderness tires with a 235 width at its department stores, Sears Auto Centers and NTB National Tire & Battery centers. The tire retailer sold the tires on a special-order basis. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received reports of 21 deaths and 193 crashes involving the tires since 1992.
