Hawaii's Sunny Garcia bolstered his standing as the Association of Surfing Professionals' top-rated men's surfer by winning the Panasonic Shockwave U.S. Open at Huntington Beach, Calif. yesterday.

Garcia beat California's Dan Malloy and Rob Machado and Hawaii's Kalani Robb in the final with an estimated crowd of 30,000 spectators.

The waves were 4-6 feet.

It was Garcia's third World Championship Tour victory of the year, and he pocketed $10,000.

In the Elleven Women's U.S. Open, Hawaii's Megan Abubo finished second to Brazil's Tita Tavares.
