THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF
HAWAIIAN LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE

Tapa

Ami in Missouri

Although a number of Star-Bulletin staff are University of
Missouri-Columbia grads, we don't remember anything Hawaiian
about the school except a flirtation with puka-shell necklaces in
the disco era. Now, however, John Kumia's Halau Hula o
Missouri is part of the school's recreation services, and this
picture is from the school's handbook. "I am spreading seeds
of aloha passed on to me by my Kumu Hula Auntie Ma'iki Aiu
Lake and her daughter Coline Aiu Ferranti," says Kumia,
assistant to the rec-services director.

The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life in the Universe is just that -- we're looking for evidence of Hawaiiana everywhere but Hawaii. Send snapshots and a description to TSFSOHLITU, Today Department, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, P.O. Box 3080, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813, or e-mail JPEGS or TIFFs to features@starbulletin.com
