KAPAA, Kauai - The Ewa All-Stars won the state Little League title by holding off the Aiea All-Stars, 8-6, in a home run derby yesterday at the New Kapaa Main Diamond.

The teams combined for seven home runs in all.

Ewa used three homers, including Aaron Gealon's three-run blast in the fourth, to finish undefeated in the tournament. The team now advances to the West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif.

Aiea jumped on Ewa's starting pitcher John Worthington early as third baseman Matt Young and shortstop Lance Powell both homered in the first.

Ewa answered in the bottom of the inning as shortstop Ian Pantorilla whacked a two-out, two-run blast over right field to tie the game at 2-2.

Ewa took a 4-2 lead in the third on RBI singles by Jared Gomez and Worthington.

A solo home run by Jay Angotti narrowed it to 4-3 but Ramsey Sakamoto gave Ewa a 5-3 lead on a homer to right.

After Gealon hit what proved to be the game-winner, Aiea rallied behind Kyle Ertel in the top of the sixth.

Ertel's three-run homer with two outs closed the gap to 8-6 but Kendall Hodson flied out to center to end the threat and the game.
