Spirited performance

Seven local dancers will be featured in a 90-minute concert, "Spirit Dancing," exploring spirituality, death and transformation.

Performances, presented by Bluewater Dance Company, take place at 8 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5, at Tenney Theatre, St. Andrew's Cathedral.

The concert comprises serious and humorous pieces, including an excerpt from Sundance Company's "Chapter of Coming Forth by Day," based on the Egyptian Book of the Dead.

Featured dancers are Kai Andersen, Fay Ann Chun, Lou Ann Guanson, John H.Y. Wat, Cora Yamagata, Malia Yamamoto and Debra T. Yamaki. The choreographers are Yamaki and guests Meriam Rosen and J. Alan Lynes.

Maui, Kauai reggae jam

Bob Marley's son, Ky-mani Marley, will headline the "Maui JamDown 2000" Friday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Amphitheater.

Following the lead of brothers Ziggy, Stephen, Damian and Julian, Ky-mani is the newest Marley sensation, carrying on the musical legacy of his father. His CD, "The Journey," is on Billboard charts and is a top seller in Hawaii.

Tickets for the Maui show are $23.50 in advance, $27 at the door. Tickets are available at Radio Free Music Center in Honolulu and other locations on Maui, or can be purchased by calling 24-order-by-phone at 1-(888)-386-8497 or 627-0128 on Oahu.

Ky-mani will also perform at the Second Annual "Kauai Splash" International Reggae on Saturday at Kukui Grove Park & Pavilion. The festival is on from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $18.50, $22 at the gate. Children under 12 free. Tickets are available at Radio Free Music Center and other locations on Kauai. Nickelback in concert

Nickelback will be making its Hawaii debut at Gussie L'Amour's next month, performing three nights in support of its new CD, "The State." The band's first top 20 single, "Leader of Men," is also on 97.5 KPOI's "Buzz Band" compilation CD.

Tickets are on sale at Gussie's for the 9 p.m. Aug. 4, 5 and 6 shows for a 21 and older crowd. Cost is $8 in advance for a three-day pass, and $10 at the door.

Gussie's is at 3251 N. Nimitz Highway.
