Movers sweep
Anchorage

The Hawaii Island Movers used strong arms to win one game, 3-2, and potent bats to win another, 12-9, in a sweep of the Anchorage Bucs in Alaska yesterday.

Bryan Lee and Ben Siff shut down the Bucs on six hits and then the Movers exploded for 12 runs and 14 hits, including a seven-run fourth inning.

Right fielder Kona Sampaio went 5-for-8 on the day with three RBIs.

Kennelly advances

Kauai's Keala Kennelly advanced to the second round of the Mr. Price Pro surf contest in Durban, South Africa, by placing second in her first-round heat yesterday.

Kennelly and the winner of her heat --Australia's Amee Donohue --had the highest scores of the day in the Association of Surfing Professionals World Qualifying Series 6-star event.

Team Hawaii victorious

Team Hawaii won its second Hawaii/Alaska quarter-mile drag racing shootout in Alaska during the Fourth of July 2000 weekend.

Team Hawaii consisted of Paul Giovanetti, David Coburn, Kari Lynn Hamada, Ken Nakamura, Joe Correia and James Barboza.

La Diana in yacht lead

La Diana maintained its lead of the fleet in the West Marine Pacific Cup yacht race from San Francisco to Kaneohe.

The yacht also continued to lead the doublehanded 1 division as of yesterday morning's reports.

Wylie 39 leads the doublehanded 2 division.

In the fully crewed yachts, Halcyon, moved up four places to take the Division A lead. Red Sky moved into the lead in Division B, while Elan is in front in Division C.

Bodacious continues to lead Division D, and Cha-Ching is the new top dog in Division E.

Billfish auction set

An auction will be held Aug. 1 at the Outrigger Waikoloa to benefit the Hawaiian International Billfish Association.

The public is invited to the event, which also includes a buffet, local entertainment and a no-host bar. Tickets are $50.

The HIBA supports marine research and conservation efforts such as tag and release, satellite tagging and genetic research. It also hosts the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament each year in Kona.
