Moiliili recipes
published among
nation’s best

Two recipes from "Tastes and Tales of Moiliili," published in 1997 by the Moiliili Community Center, have been selected for publication in "America's Best Recipes -- A 2000 Collection," published by Oxmoor House.

The 400 recipes in the collection were chosen by food experts and tested by a staff of home economists. They come from cookbooks published by community groups throughout the country.

The Moiliili cookbook is available at several local bookstores and at the community center on South King Street. Call 955-1555. "America's Best Recipes" will sell for $24.95 once it is released.

The Moiliili recipes selected were the bread recipe below, and a recipe for Ono Spareribs.

Pineapple Nut Bread

1-3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup macadamia nuts or walnuts, chopped
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 cup crushed pineapple, undrained
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Stir in nuts; set aside. Cream brown sugar, butter and eggs until fluffy. Stir in flour mixture, then add pineapple. Pour into a greased 9-by-5-by-3-inch loaf pan. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
