Police found two missing Nanakuli girls at about 11:30 this morning near Kuhio Park Terrace.

The girls had been missing since last night and were the subject of a large search effort this morning.

The girls were in good condition and carrying a box of saimin that they had purchased, said missing persons officer Phillip Camero.

Claudia Faamasino, 11, and her cousin Valerie Lilo, 9, were staying at their aunt's apartment at 3220 Waialae Avenue and were last seen yesterday at about 4 p.m.

The girls had been staying at the apartment since Sunday and were supposed to stay through this weekend.

There are no signs of an abduction or foul play, Camero said. He said the girls apparently ran away.

The girls were reunited with their legal guardians in Nanakuli this afternoon.

The aunt said she discovered the girls missing when she woke up from a nap to go to church at about 6 p.m. Police were called shortly before midnight.

A neighbor reported seeing the girls yesterday and overheard them talking about catching a bus from Kaimuki to their Aone Place home in Nanakuli, police said.

Police got a tip this morning that the girls were spotted at the Tesoro gas station in Palama.

Officers searched the area and found the girls.

The girls apparently had some friends and family members who lived at Kuhio Park Terrace. They took the bus there, Camero said.

Before the girls were found, police had planned to talk to bus drivers and use search dogs in their efforts to find the girls.
