Ikaika Villa won the bodyboard title in a 1-2-3-4 Hawaii division sweep, and five other island surfers won national titles during the National Scholastic Surfing Association Championships this past weekend at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, Calif.

Winning their respective surfing divisions were: Melanie Bartels (explorer women), Kristen Quizon (open women), Sean Moody (explorer junior boys), Nathan Carroll (explorer boys) and Mike Latronic (explorer men's masters).

In the bodyboard contest, Shawn Tenora placed second, Roger Mamuad third and Alika Gaspar fourth.

Hawaii also had five other runner-up finishes, including Bartels, who was second in women's open, and Joel Centeio, who was second in both the open men and junior explorer divisions.

Villa will defend his bodyboard championship when Hawaii hosts the U.S. Amateur Surfing Championships July 10-16.
