Men and Stooges
mystery solved

WOMEN will probably enjoy the revelation by Star-Bulletin copy editor George Steele that the DNA of malesMug shot contains three identical sets of Nitrase/Ytranine/Ultrase/Kitanine. Chemically, he reports, they're written "NYUK, NYUK, NYUK." Call it man's "Curly" gene ... That may or may not have anything to do with the fact that George "Red" Morris is back from Ireland where he and wife Gail celebrated 35 years of togetherness. He's the first to admit, "It hasn't been easy for her." They went with John Radcliffe and wife Diane, and when the women wanted to tour a castle, Red scoped out a nearby pub and gave the wives two-way radios so they could call the boys when they were ready to leave. Alas, after a few ales, Morris found out the radios were also ailing, having dead batteries. He managed to replace them, and thanks to the persuasiveness of the ladies, the bus they were aboard swung by and picked up the men at the pub. Friendly folks, the Irish, and Morris' red hair probably didn't hurt ...

SEEMS Mayor Jeremy Harris didn't use influence with the auditoriums department to allow free parking for those attending his fund-raiser at the Blaisdell Center last week. His people say each car which was admitted at no charge was toted up and payments were made to the City by the Harris for Mayor campaign fund. So while it was free to get in, the Mayor had to pay the parking fees ...

Pierce and Preston

THE above sounds like a law firm, but isn't. The first name refers to actor Pierce Brosnan who saw some eye-catching flooring made by Mark Ellwell of Bamboo Flooring Hawaii, and bought some to use in the master bedroom of the new house he and his bride are remodeling -- in Malibu! Guess he'll look far and wide to find what he wants ...And Kelly Preston so enjoyed the dinner she and some friends had at Padovani's Wine Bar that she requested an order "to go" for her flight back home. Kelly was here to attend her Punahou class reunion and learned that co-owner with chef Philippe Padovani at the restaurant bearing his name is classmate J.P. Damon ...

ONE of Damon's relatives, Michael Haig, was among the guests of a happy-go-lucky, cigar-chomping luncheon/birthday party for Richard Malmgren at Havana Cabana last week. Malmgrem on three occasions bid on and won gift certificates at Havana Cabana. The first two expired and the third was about to also when his wife, Judie, called some of his chums and arranged for the luncheon. Others helping Malmgren celebrate his 57th were Mike Scarfone, Jim Moo, Gary Kirby, Philip Kristianson and Myron Gates ...

TV morning anchor Jill Kuramoto said "yes" to her longtime beau, Dave Randall, but no wedding date has been set as yet ... And KGMB reporter Will Tran, who left here for a TV job in rainy Portland, is returning to sunnier climes. He's now reporting for the Orange County News Channel, the same place where weather reporter Maria Quiban first worked after leaving KHNL ...

Final appearance

A WEEK to the day after Sheila Sanford appeared at a Murphy's fund-raiser ($7,000 raised) while battling a return of cancer, she passed away. The widow of Sam Sanford, Sheila was all smiles and kisses until the end, and everyone who showed up for the event seemed happy to have that as their final memory of her. I know I was ...
