Honors earned

Bullet Regional winners of GEICO's 13th annual National Seat Belt Poster Contest for ages 6-11 are: Corina Sampaia from E.B. de Silva School in Hilo, first; and Maricel Delos Santos from Pahala Elementary School, third. For age group 12-15, first prize went to Glenda Duldulao from Kalakaua Middle School; second place went to Nancy Shon from Stevenson Middle School; and third to Angelo Kho from Kalakaua Middle School.

Bullet Hina Mauka Recovery Center recognized the following people at its Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony: Andrew Autele, Christian Benkman, Brian Burnet, Colleen Fox, Doug Hall, Chiyeko Harada, Tyler Harr, Sara Hill, Wendy Klimpl, Erin Law, Rocky Like, Tricia Matsukado, Todd Obata, Mary O'Hanlon, Mike O'Neil, Christie Pacheco, Malia Reeves, Patricia Rickman, Denny Schnaible, Jan Takahashi, Bill Tapper, Melissa Torres, Darlene Vysoky and Diane Walden.

Bullet Dr. Lorraine Mito, assistant department chair of education programs and faculty member at the Hawaii Campus of the University of Phoenix, was chosen to participate in the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program to Japan.

Bullet The U.S. Small Business Administration awarded the Pacific Division's Regional Officer in Charge of Contracts at Pearl Harbor an award for its small business contracting efforts.

Bullet GEICO awarded Sgt. Laura R.K. Jernigan of the 25th Military Police Battalion, Schofield Army Barracks, a Military Service Award for her achievements in drug and alcohol prevention.

Bullet Punahou School selected Jonathan Yorck to be one of the fellows to participate in the 2000 Korean Studies Program being held in New York.

Bullet Joan Yoshina, the librarian at Mililani Mauka Elementary School, received the Golden Key Award from the Hawaii Association of School Librarians.

Bullet Stanley Young received the 1999 Outstanding Vending Program Rehabilitant of the Year award from Ho'opono (Services of the Blind Branch of the Department of Human Services) and the Outstanding Blind Person of the Year award from the Lions Club of Honolulu.

Bullet Spa Management Magazine awarded JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina the 1999 Jeffrey Joseph Spa of the Year Award.

Bullet Rand T.K. Lono, a freshman at Kamehameha Schools and son of Rory and Nora Lono, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Bullet Owen M. Sonoda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick T. Sonoda and a member of Troop 49, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
