Hayashi in hunt in
Golden Bear Tour event

Kevin Hayashi of Hawaii shot a 3-under-par 69 and was five strokes back of the lead after yesterday's first round of the Golden Bear Tour's second event of the season.

Roland Thatcher's 64 led the field in the Waterford Crystal Classic at the Loblolly Pines (Fla.) Golf Course.

Lifter Suzuki impressive

Hawaii's Paula Suzuki set two world bench press records at last Sunday's APF Senior National Bench Press & Powerlifting Championships in Detroit.

Suzuki, competing in the 160-pound class, lifted 403.5 pounds. The total is not only the most for her weight class but also the most weight bench-pressed by a female powerlifter in any weight class and gives her the No. 1-ranking in the world. The previous world mark was 402 pounds.

O'Bryan All-American

Molly O'Bryan, an incoming senior at the University of Hawaii, was named to the All-America women's honorable mention team by the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association. She was the only Wahine selected for the team.

Hawaii's Kaya Haig, a junior who sails for Boston University, was named to the All-America first team.
