Pennsylvania gov
to speak at local GOP
fund-raiser

Hawaii Republicans are planning a $100-a-plate fund-raiser Saturday.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge will speak at the 6 p.m. event at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel's Maui Ballroom. The popular two-term governor has been mentioned as a potential vice presidential candidate.

"I think he is an ideal vice presidential candidate," said Linda Lingle, Hawaii GOP chairwoman.

"In addition to his success in the areas of education, job creation and tax reform, Gov. Ridge is a highly decorated Vietnam combat veteran who will relate well to Hawaii's large active and retired military community," she said.

Lingle said all money raised from the dinner will be used to support local GOP campaigns.
