Retired judge Martin Pence dies at 95

Fred H. Akahoshi, 96, of Honolulu, retired owner of Akahoshi Accounting Office, died May 18, in Hale Nani Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born in Pahala, Hawaii. He is survived by wife Janet Y.; brothers Charles T. Kudo and Irving M., and sister Blanche S. Urasaki. Private services.

Mary A. Akeo, 76, of Waianae died May 19 in Queen's Hospital. She was born in Kukaiau, Hawaii. She is survived by daughters Rose K. Hew Len and Helen Sage; brother Anthony Paiva; sisters Anna Kaleikini and Myrtle Hamel; eight grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Inurnment: 10 a.m. Friday at Oahu Cemetery. Casual attire.

William K. Brown, 62, of Hilo, a member of the Bunny Brown and Sons Musical Family, died Sunday at home. He also was a receptionist at Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by father William E. "Bunny"; brothers Elson "Bobo" and Boyson; sister Bunnette H. Yorong; hanai daughter Tessie Estocado, and hanai son Shannon Estocado. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Haili Church. Cremation to follow. Call from 6 p.m. tomorrow for an all-night vigil at the church. Casual attire.

Carolyn Sardinha Lopez, 55, of Pearl City, died Wednesday in Kapiolani Hospital at Pali Momi. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband Bernardino R. Jr; daughters Sandralyn Perry-Vidad, Sheri Ann Kagimoto and Shellie Akiona; son Shawn Lopez; sisters Patricia Demmer, Aileen Okabe and Annabelle Kageyama; brother Christopher Sardinha, and 12 grandchildren. Prayer services: 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 1525 Waimano Home Road. Call after 6 p.m. Mass: noon Saturday at the church. Call after 10 a.m. No flowers. Casual attire.

Arthur T. Nagasawa, 72, of Honolulu, a retired Chaminade University professor, died April 17 in Queen's Hospital. He was born in Spreckelsville, Maui. He is survived by sisters Elsie Sakai and Iris T. Tamura. Private services.

Sarah Pickarski, 83, of Honolulu died last Tuesday at home. She was born in Honokaa, Hawaii. She is survived by daughters Pamela Croxton and Paula Leong; brothers Thomas and Stephen Gouveia, and five grandchildren. Mass 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen's Church. Call from 9 a.m. Burial: Hawaiian Memorial Park. Aloha attire.

Margaret Wessel Stearns, 73, of Pahoa, Hawaii, a retired teacher at Honokaa High and Keaau Intermediate schools, died Thursday at home. She also was a librarian, former president of the Friends of the Library and a member of the state Library Advisory Committee for the Big Island. She was born in Hilo. She is survived by husband William; sons Tommy and Michael; stepdaughter Dana Clohan; brothers Macy and Terry Wessel; sisters Pauline Chillingworth and Katherine Stormont, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services: 3 p.m. tomorrow at First United Protestant Church in Hilo. No donations or flowers. Donations suggested to Hospice of Hilo. Casual attire.

George J. Stein, 91, of Kailua, a retired epidemiologist and microbiologist for the Communicable Disease Center, died May 20 in St. Francis-West Hospice. He is survived by wife Mitsue; sons Daniel F. and Stephen T.; daughter Tomiko G., and four grandchildren. Private services.
