UH football season
ticket sales

University of Hawaii football season tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Stan Sheriff Center box office. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays (except holidays).

There will be a limit of 10 tickets per person if there is a line formed. A $4 handling fee will be charged for all orders.

Tickets also will be sold by phone at 944-BOWS (2697) starting Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m. Thereafter, phone-sale hours will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays (except holidays). In addition to the $4 handling charge, there will be a $2 convenience fee for all phone orders.

Season ticket prices range from $77 to $135, not including premium seat donations.

Special Olympics liftoff

The 32nd annual Special Olympics Hawaii Statewide Summer Games began yesterday with powerlifting competition at the University of Hawaii.

Women's gold medals went to Dale and Geri Corpus, Leanne Ngal and Chandra Chee. Cassilly Woll (silver) and Katie O.Brien (bronze) also medaled.

In the men's division, Albert Oka, Brock Kim, Pailaka Soares, Tyson Pagat, David Carter and John Shapiro won gold medals. Dukie Kaawa, Adrian Ueintuar and Pagat took silver medals. Gregory Routery, Norman Matsubara, Michael Biggerstaff, Seth Correa and Gary Murakami earned bronze.

Beauty/Beast showdowns

Some of the world's strongest men will take part in the Atlantis Adventures Trolley Pull, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Aloha Tower Marketplace, to wind up today's events in the 24 Hour Fitness Beauty & the Beast competition.

The World's Strongman Challenge and Women's Bikini Fitness Challenge continues tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sea Life Park with five more strongman finals and the women's beauty/physique contests.

Local Motion surfing bash

More than 300 amateur surfers will compete in Local Motion Surf into Summer 2000 this weekend at Ala Moana Bowls off Magic Island.

The final event will be Surfing Magazine's Super 16 Challenge at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

There will be a $20,000 ping pong ball drop (1 p.m. Monday) and entertainment, including a Hawaiian Style Backyard Jam (11 a.m.- 4 p.m. tomorrow).

Garcia loses in round four

Oahu's Sunny Garcia lost his fourth-round heat to Brazilian Guilherme Herdy today in the Quiksilver Pro Fiji 2000.

Garcia remains the ASP World Championship Tour ratings leader.

Hawaii's Shane Dorian won his round 4 heat and will face Herdy in tomorrow's quarterfinals.

Speedway salutes military

It's Armed Forces Nite tonight at Hawaii Motor Speedway featuring winged sprint cars, modifieds, super modifieds, super stocks and mini stocks.

All active and retired military personnel with photo ID receive $2 of the price of admission.

The gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m .

'Duke' statue replica to UH

Duke's Canoe Club & Barefoot Bar, in association with The Kahanamoku Family Foundation, will present the University of Hawaii with a 16-inch replica of the Duke Kahanamoku statue Monday for display at the UH aquatic complex.

The 10:15 a.m. presentation on the lower lanai of Duke's Canoe Club & Barefoot Bar in the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel will follow a one-mile Oceanfest swim race that starts at 9 a.m.
