Honor and beauty

The international Buddhist order Shinnyo-en will present Toro-Nagashi, a lantern-floating ceremony, beginning 6 p.m. Monday at Ke'ehi Lagoon Park.

More than 1,000 lanterns will be set afloat by local members of Shinnyo-en to honor the souls of the dead on Memorial Day. A live satellite feed will broadcast the Toro-Nagashi worldwide.

Shinnyo-en, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, aims for world harmony through the application of traditional Buddhist principles in modern society.

There is no fee to observe the event. For more information, call 550-8508 (English) or 926-0118 (Japanese).
