Kevin Carll of the Hapuna Golf Course on the Big Island shot a 2-under-par 70 yesterday at Ko Olina for a one-stroke lead over Pearl Country Club's Beau Yokomoto after the first round of the 36-hole Aloha Section PGA Assistant Professional Championship.

At 72 were Henry Sieradzki of Kaneohe Klipper and Troy Sato and Lance Taketa of Hilo Municipal.

Ladies' Day at Koolau

As part of American Golf's nationwide Women in Golf Day program, the Koolau Golf Club in Kaneohe will host free lessons and other golf-related special events for girls and women ages 14 and up Saturday starting at 8 a.m.

Golf clubs will be available for newcomers. There will be an optional closest-to-the-pin contest, with entry fees of $15 to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
