Darrell Labrado will perform as part of the
free Hoku Awards celebration



Pre-Hoku fun

Restaurant Row will be hosting the free pre-Hoku Awards party "Hoku Fanfare 2000," from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, with entertainment, a beer garden and family fun in the form of face painting, lei-making demonstrations and sales of lei and Hawaiian crafts.

Exhibits will include the "Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame" from Bishop Museum and the screening of Edgy Lee's award-winning film "Paniolo." Borders Books and Music will offer Hoku-nominated CDs for sale.

The entertainment roster follows:

5 p.m. -- Akoni and the Palapalai Patch
6 p.m. -- Hula Joe and the Hutjumpers
6:30 p.m. -- Darrell Labrado
7 p.m. -- Weldon Kekauoha
7:30 p.m. -- Pomai & Loeka
8 p.m. -- Soul Free
9 p.m. -- Justin and Jamin
10 p.m. -- Kapena

The Hoku Awards ceremony, honoring the best in Hawaiian music, takes place Sunday at the Sheraton Waikiki with a cocktail reception at 5 p.m. Awards will be presented from 6 p.m. The event will be broadcast from 8 p.m. on KFVE-TV.
