Choy invites young
chefs to recipe contest

Cooks ages 5 to 17 have until 2 p.m. Saturday to enter their best recipes in the Sam Choy Keiki Recipe Contest.

Entries will be considered for a cookbook for kids being put together by Choy, owner of Sam Choy's Diamondhead Restaurant on Kapahulu Avenue and Sam Choy's Breakfast Lunch and Crab on Nimitz Highway. He will select a grand-prize winner and other recipes for the book, all of which will be credited to their keiki chefs.

The grand-prize winner also will be featured on the "Sam Choy's Kitchen" TV program on KHNL.

All entries will be eligible for an autographed copy of the "Sam Choy's Kitchen" cookbook, just in time for Mother's Day. The drawing will take place during Choy's book signing appearance Saturday at Mark's Hallmark in Pearlridge Downtown.

Choy will be at the store beginning at 1 p.m. and sales that day of "Sam Choy's Kitchen" will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu.

Donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters also will be accepted, and shoppers can enter a drawing for prizes donated by sponsors of the nonprofit organization.

More information about the recipe contest is available at all Mark's Hallmark locations.
