PRINCEVILLE, Kauai - Meryann Ito of Aiea fired a 4-under 68 yesterday to take a four-stroke lead into today's final round of the David Ishii Girls State Golf Championships at the Princeville Makai Golf Course.

Ito finished second in the Oahu Interscholastic Association championship earlier this year and was fifth in the state tournament last year.

In second after carding a par-72 was Waiakea's Leah Whiting.

Ito recorded four birdies and one bogey on the front nine to go out in 33. On the back nine, she played steady as she recorded one birdie and no bogeys.

Whiting, who finished second in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation championship this year and was 12th in the state last year, shot an even-par 72.

Defending HHSAA champion Shayna Miyajima of Baldwin is in third place with a 3-over 75.

In the team competition, Waiakea had a 240 for a 10-stroke lead over Hilo.
