One of Bishop Museum's most familiar personalities is leaving.

Ken Miller, director of the Center of Space Education, resigned yesterday to take a position with Goto Optical, a maker of planetarium equipment. Miller will be responsible for North American product development for the Japanese manufacturer.

As an educator and the designated spokesman for most of the museum's exhibits for the past decade, Miller was one of the museum's best-known faces. He was originally in charge of the museum's planetarium.

Miller will continue to work on the museum's Star Station One program, and will lease office space at the museum for the next year.

"Ken Miller has been a highly valued employee, and integral to the growth of Bishop Museum's education programs over the past 13 years," said director W. Donald Duckworth."We're sorry to see him leave his current position, but pleased that he will continue with us as an independent contractor, and wish him well in his new career."

Miller's final day at the museum is May 21.
