Campbell refused to lose yesterday. Mike Cabral made sure of it.

Cabral drove in the tying and the go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh inning for the Sabers as they rallied to eliminate host Kaiser, 9-8, in the first round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association baseball tournament.

The Sabres (7-4) scored four runs in their last at-bat after squandering a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars end their season at 6-4.

catcher Michael Cabral leaps for the late throw.

"We just wanted it a more," Sabres coach Lane Watanuki said of his team. "The strength of the team is its character. They refuse to lose and have a 'never say die' attitude."

David Chu helped key a Kaiser six-run rally in the sixth with a run-scoring, ground-rule double that tied the game at 5-5. The Cougars added three more runs, including two on Nathan Ota's double.

"I was proud when we came back, but we didn't do our part to win,'' Cougars coach Duke Chinen said.

Kaiser couldn't hold on in the seventh. Campbell opened the inning with two walks and LandonNewcomb's single through the gap at shortstop brought in a run. Bryce Miyashiro's RBI double cut the lead to 8-7, setting up Cabral's game-winning hit.
