A United States premiere runway fashion show by the likes of Escada is such a rare event in Honolulu that people are still talking about the last one.
hits the runway
"That was 10 years ago," said Mariese Montano-Smith, store manager at Escada, Ala Moana Center, "I wasn't with the company then; I started seven years ago, but to this day people keep telling me what a fabulous show that was.
"Hopefully, people will be talking about this one too."
What: Escada Fall/Winter 2000 Collection
ON THE RAMP
Where & when: 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Sheraton Waikiki Hotel
Only Dallas, Honolulu, Denver and Chicago will be getting the fashion show featuring Escada's Couture Fall/ Winter 2000 Collections. Escada USA president Caryn Lerner will be flying in from New York for the Sunday event at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Hosting the show will be the Japanese Women's Society of Honolulu, who will donate proceeds to Kuakini Home, Care Home for the Elderly.
The collection by the Munich-based design house reads a little bit Hollywood, a little bit high society, with feather-top gowns, fur trims and embellishments of Swarovski crystals and Oscar-worthy sequins.
Speaking of Oscars, among celebs who chose Escada for this year's Academy Awards ceremony were Angela Bassett, Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Mary Hart and "American Beauty" star Mena Suvari.
A few tickets remain for the event, which begins 10:15 a.m. with a performance by the Suzuki Strings in the ballroom lobby. The lunch and fashion show begins at noon. Tickets are $45.
For tickets, call Irene of JWS at 988-3388.
For those who miss the show, there will be a trunk show at Escada, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, featuring retail samples. For more information, call the boutique at 973-3738.
