Bobby Bowden of Florida State and Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer will meet again, this time in the 2001 Rivals.Com Hula Bowl on Jan. 20 at the Maui War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku.

Bowden's Seminoles defeated Beamer's Hokies, 46-29, in the Nokia Sugar Bowl to capture the national championship with a perfect 12-0 record.

Grant Teaff, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, today named Bowden and Beamer as head coaches for the 55th annual all-star game.

"I'm excited about the chance to coach in the Hula Bowl," Bowden said.

"I've always enjoyed getting to coach players from different programs and learning how they do different things.

"Naturally, Maui is a beautiful setting for the game and they do an excellent job of making it a great trip for everyone involved."

Bowden will coach the Aina team and will be assisted by Bob Ford, head coach of the University of Albany who is also the 2001 AFCA president.

Beamer will handle the Kai team. His assistant coaches will be University of Utah's Ron McBride and also the Division I and Division II coaches of the year.

Kickoff for the game will be at 3 p.m. and will be televised live on prime time in the East Coast by ESPN.
