Rookie Anthony Carter, the former University of Hawaii star, scored 15 points to help push the Miami Heat past the Orlando Magic 95-84 yesterday.

Carter's role with the Heat may increase. Starting point guard Tim Hardaway limped off the court and was carried to the locker room with a sprained left foot.

The Heat clinched their fourth consecutive Atlantic Division title, but Hardaway's injury left the champions in no mood to celebrate.

"It didn't look too good," teammate Alonzo Mourning said. "We'll probably be without one of our players. It's going to be a tough loss for us."

If Hardaway is out for the season, Carter will step into the starting role.

The game was Hardaway's first after missing two games with plantar fasciaitis, an inflammation of tissue in the sole of his left foot. The ailment can sideline a player for several weeks.
