Another game, another big upset for the Sacred Hearts Academy girls' basketball team.

Samantha Alapa stepped up huge again last night. She hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds left, lifting host Sacred Hearts past No. 4 Iolani, 31-30.

Alapa, a 5-foot-6 junior forward, also made a last-second shot Saturday to beat then-No. 5 Punahou, 39-38.

"I wasn't really thinking about anything, just making the free throws," Alapa said last night.

Alapa got the chance to win the game at the line after grabbing an offensive rebound and getting fouled trying to put up a shot.

The Raiders controlled the ball for the final four minutes of the fourth quarter with a one point lead, and forced the Lancers to foul with under 10 seconds remaining.

Alapa rebounded the second of Iolani's missed free throws and the Lancers had just enough time to take a final shot.

After Alapa's free throws, Malia Sales intercepted an Iolani pass at halfcourt to seal the victory.

"We've made tremendous improvement since the beginning of the season," Lancers' coach Dexter Kaiama said.

Iolani (5-2) was 1-for-8 on free throws in the fourth quarter.

"Sacred Hearts controlled the tempo," Iolani coach Mark Mugiishi said.
