Jimmie's Chicken Shack has signed on for
next month's Poi Fest at Turtle Bay.

Poi Fest is back! Lined up to rock the North Shore May 7 will be The Flys, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Dave Wakeling, Lit and Everclear.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the outdoor concert that will be held on the grounds of the Turtle Bay Hilton.

Breaking from a new tradition of outrageous ticket prices, tickets for the all-day show are $19.75, plus service charge. Tickets will be available at all Ticket Plus locations: Foodland, Tempo Music, the University of Hawaii Campus Center and Blaisdell Box Office.

Here's the rundown on the bands:

The Flys -- The Hollywood-based band is best known for the song "Got You (Where I Want You)," featured on the "Disturbing Behavior" soundtrack.

Jimmie's Chicken Shack -- Fowl Records band led by Jimi Haha released the albums "Pushing The Salmanilla Envelope," "Slow Change" and "Bring Your Own Stereo." The band frequently draws comparisons to everyone from the Beach Boys to Bob Marley to Offspring.

Dave Wakeling -- The former member of The English Beat and General Public is on his own.

Lit -- The current radio darlings have two simultaneous hits, "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Miserable," off the "A Place in the Sun" album.

Everclear -- Portland's (Oregon) hardest working band, led by Art Alexakis, has hits like "Santa Monica," "Father of Mine" and "I Will Buy You a New Life" and is working on a followup to "So Much for the Afterglow."

Gates will open at 10:30 a.m. and the concert will start at noon.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline, and The Surfrider Foundation.

Sharing songs

Favorite songs from musicals such as "The Sound of Music," "South Pacific," "Carousel," "The King and I" and "Oklahoma!" will be on the bill when Manoa Valley Theatre and The Company Singers present "An Evening with Rodgers and Hammerstein," at 7:30 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday.

The concerts mark the debut of the Singers, a group that banded together to perform songs from musicals and operettas without the need for a full-scale theater production..

The ensemble performers are Chuck Anctil, Stephanie Conching, Charles Degala, Mary Gutzi, Gordon Ing, Annie MacLachlin, Guy Merola, Nanilisa Pascua and Emmett Yoshioka.

Tickets for the concert are $15 ($13 for MVT season ticket holders). MVT is at 2833 E. Manoa Road. Call 988-6131.
