Big week for Komine

Former Kalani High School star Shane Komine was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Texas Tech last weekend.

Komine, the conference leader in strikeouts a game with 12.18, paced the Huskers to their third Big 12 shutout of the season while striking out a season-high 13 and allowing just two hits in an 11-0 victory over Texas Tech.

Komine, who raised his record to 4-2, was impressive against the Big 12's overall team batting leader (.311) as he fanned 10 of the first 16 batters he faced. The sophomore has 69 strikeouts in 51 innings and a 1.94 ERA.

HPU's Garcia honored

Holly Garcia, a freshman shortstop from Ewa Beach, has been named as the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.

Garcia helped lead the Hawaii Pacific University Sea Warriors to four straight wins over conference opponents St. Martin's and BYU-Hawaii.

In the wins, Garcia went 6-for-11 for a .545 average with three doubles, one triple and four RBIs.
