Kamehameha skips
past Iolani, 5-4

Joshua Martin doubled in Eli McAngus in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kamehameha rebounded from a Tuesday loss to St. Louis, handing Iolani its first Interscholastic League of Honolulu loss, 5-4, yesterday.

Hubert Pruett scattered six hits in pitching a complete game for the Warriors (2-1).

He retired the Raiders in order in the seventh to preserve the lead, and finished with nine strikeouts.

"We played well enough to win," Iolani coach Dean Yonamine said. "They just made more plays. They played more solid (baseball)."

Martin collected three hits on the day. Iolani's Jason Teruya had two hits, including a triple.

The Owls pounded 15 hits and had two big innings in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

Ikaika Upchurch drove in five runs and Reid Asato and Ryan Tanabe each had four RBIs as the Owls (3-0) scored seven times in the first inning and nine more in the third.

Maryknoll fell to 0-3.

Jovaustin Murray-Thorton pitched a three-hitter to lead the Crusaders to a win over the Monarchs.

Murray-Thorton gave up two runs in the first, but stifled Damien the rest of the game. He finished with six strikeouts.

Jason Perreira and Shaynene Arellano hit home runs for the Crusaders (3-0).

Damien dropped to 0-3.
