Electric Marathon Madness

Jacqueline Van Blarcom, above, a senior at Sacred Hearts Academy,
test drives her car and April Ota, below, a senior at Maryknoll School,
gets attention from her pit crew yesterday as their schools prepared for
the fifth annual Hawaiian Electric Electron Marathon. The event starts at
9 a.m. Saturday on Ford Island. Nineteen schools have built electric cars
for the competition. They will race for an hour to see whose car travels
the farthest. Military branches also will compete in a
similar, interservice event.
