Wahine lose
in water polo

Stanford's nationally second-ranked women's water polo team whipped No. 6 Hawaii, 14-3, in the final match of the Victor Aloha Classic yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

It also was a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match for the Cardinal (11-3 overall, 3-0 MPSF) and Wahine (9-6, 1-4).

Margie Dingeldein led Stanford with three goals. Lisa DeRossi, Robin Jones and Denise Parreira scored for UH.

In yesterday's other tournament match, No. 8 San Jose State (10-7, 1-2 MPSF) defeated No. 14 Michigan (13-3) of the Big Ten, 6-3.

Next up for UH is a three-match road trip to UC San Diego, San Diego State and Long Beach State March 10-12.

Grand times at Murphy's

Murphy's Bar & Grill downtown will kick off its St. Patrick's Week festivities with an "Irish Fry" breakfast Saturday from 9:30 a.m to noon, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society's "Coaches vs. Cancer" campaign.

Also at Murphy's, from 5:30-7 p.m. on March 14, University of Hawaii football coach June Jones and his staff will share previews of the coming season and show video of top local and mainland recruits in action.

The $50 cost will include Murphy's special pupu buffet, beverages and a 2000 membership in NaKoa, the UH football booster organization. All proceeds from the event go to NaKoa.
