Baywatch finale not fatal

Ricky Martin show still a go

Reports of David Hasselhoff's character dying in the May season finale of "Baywatch Hawaii" are highly exaggerated.

Mitch Buchannon "doesn't die but disappears in an explosion when he tries to stop eco-terrorists from blowing up a reef" at an unidentified Oahu beach, a source close to the show says.

"You never see the body, or retrieve anything belonging to Mitch. We really don't know at the end of the show if he lives or dies."

Hasselhoff, who wasn't consulted on the storyline, apparently misunderstood the script, "The Killing Machine," when he was interviewed for the March 4 edition of TV Guide. He said, "I was planning to leave, but not like that!"

"There's no reason to kill him off," the source said. "It's a cliffhanger. Now the character can be brought back under several situations: maimed, crippled, with loss of memory, or not at all. But it gives David the option to come back with new energy and enthusiasm."

"The decision for this plot was not to end something or to stop Mitch. The concept gives a little juice on what's to come."

Hasselhoff, 47, is leaving the hourlong lifeguard drama after 10 years. The show moved to Hawaii last year after nine seasons in Los Angeles.

The episode will air the week of May 17.

Martin shows not affected
by tour changes

The rescheduling this week of several to-be-announced Ricky Martin concerts in Australia and Asia will have no effect on his Hawaii schedule, officials in Los Angeles said.

Martin, who performs here March 26, was scheduled to perform in Australia March 30 but that date was moved back to sometime in October because of "production and logistical issues," said Elise Huntley, general manager for Worldwide Concerts in Sydney.

"At this time (Martin's production company) still is in the process of duplicating the stage they're traveling with around the United States and it wouldn't be done in time to bring the full show here," Huntley said. "Ricky wants to make sure everyone sees the show they see in the U.S."

Martin performs in Montreal two days before his Hawaii concert then starts a European tour in May.

In case you're wondering, tickets in Australia for Martin's concert were $45-$80. Aloha Stadium ducats are $37.50 to $95.
