of the Korean War

Photos by Kathryn Bender, Star-Bulletin
Ceremonies yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the Korean
War. In the top photo are Lt. Gen. Kim Myoung Hwan, at left,
commandant of the South Korean marine corps, and Lt. Gen.
Frank Libutti, commander of U.S. Marine Forces in the Pacific,
headquartered at Camp Smith.

Above, the South Korean commandant placed a wreath at the
National Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl.
Afterward, below, Libutti met with veterans of the war.
He gained the Pacific command in June after serving
as commander of III Marine Expeditionary Force and
head of Marine forces in Japan. The United States
and North Korea are negotiating the return of
the remains of Americans killed in the war.
