Three OIA soccer teams win

Three OIA teams and Hawaii Prep of the Big Island have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Boys State Soccer Championships.

In first-round action at Pearl City last night, Castle scored twice within two minutes late in the second half to beat Baldwin, 3-1, and Pearl City pounded Kealakehe, 3-0.

At Mililani, Aiea blanked Kauai, 2-0, and Hawaii Prep ousted Leilehua by the same score.

Castle (10-3) plays Hilo (13-2) and defending state champ Pearl City (11-1-1) takes on King Kekaulike (12-0) in quarterfinal play at Pearl City tonight.

At Mililani, Aiea (11-2-1) tangles with top-seeded Iolani (11-0-1) and Hawaii Prep (13-3) meets Mililani (10-0-2).

Castle's Dustin Shichida broke a 1-1 tie with a goal at the 75:05 mark and Avenn Moratin added an insurance score a minute and 45 seconds later.

Rob Lee also tallied for the Knights. Baldwin (10-3) got its goal from Artie Ferreira.

Pearl City outshot Kealakehe, 27-3, and had 14 corner kicks, keeping constant pressure on the Waveriders (9-7), who were making their first state tournament appearance in soccer.

Gerard Horn, Robert Shinn and Daniel Sanchez scored for the Chargers.

Alden Tottori got the only goal Aiea would need in the 11th minute off a throw-in by Benji Villaflor.

Sean Sprinkel added a second-half goal for Na Alii in a game marked by 37 fouls.

It was the third match in five days for the Red Raiders, who finished at 6-3-2.

Hawaii Prep scored midway through the first half when Wildes Brawner's shot was deflected off Leilehua goalkeeper Norman Reguirag to Micah Pueschel, who buried the ball in the net.

Ryan Gleed made it 2-0 early in the second half. Leilehua (7-6-1) was held to three shots on goal.
