Punahou decides not to sue

The Punahou boys' soccer team has decided not to challenge the ruling that will prevent the Buffanblu from competing in the state tournament for the firt time in 25 years.

In a letter released through their lawyer, team members offer their congratulations to the teams competing in this week's event.

The Buffanblu had considered an injunction that would have halted the event while a court deterimined whether the Hawaii High School Athletic Association had acted properly in denying a playoff between Punahou, the ILH runnerup and Maui, the MIL runnerup, for the final state berth. The MIL challenged the quota system of the HHSAA that determined league presentation; the challenge was upheld with the OIA losing its second berth in both the boys' and girls' tournaments.

Punahou has won 14 of the past 26 titles.
